Vice President of Access & Innovation
Maura Riordan has nearly 25 years of experience working with HIV/AIDS. Maura serves as the vice president of Access and Innovation at AIDS United where she focuses on strategic grantmaking to increase access and retention in care. She works closely with the AIDS United policy department and Public Policy Committee to ensure that grantee work better informs policy efforts.
Maura joined AIDS United in 2010 as the senior program officer for the Access to Care (A2C) initiative. Prior to moving to Washington, DC, Maura served as executive director of WORLD in Oakland, CA. WORLD focuses on support, advocacy and education for women living with HIV/AIDS. In 2008 Maura facilitated a series of national consultations in preparation for the rollout of the Obama Administration’s National HIV/AIDS Strategy.
Maura began her work in HIV/AIDS as her gay male friends became ill, frightened, and stigmatized as they fought for their lives. She wanted her future children to know that their mother did something to respond to the AIDS crisis and never stood idle while her friends and community members died. She is inspired everyday by commitment to social justice and equity espoused by AIDS United grantees.
