Choose Your Challenge! AIDS United Launches Expanded 2012 TEAM TO END AIDS (T2) Training Program
Roster of events includes full marathons, half marathons and a triathlon
WASHINGTON, D.C. March 7, 2012 – Following up on the success and popularity of the inaugural year of its Team to End AIDS (T2) endurance training and fundraising program, AIDS United’s 2012 T2 program includes three full marathons, two half marathons and a triathlon. Registration for all events is open now, and can be done through the T2 website at http://www.t2ea.com/.
In just a few months, T2 trains participants to complete a marathon, half marathon or triathlon, even if they’ve never trained before! Whether a beginner or a veteran of endurance challenges, T2 prepares participants to go the distance and raise money to help fight HIV/AIDS. T2 staff and certified coaches provide support every step of the way with professional fundraising, training and nutritional insight and advice. T2’s 2012 events are:
- Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, D.C.
- Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Chicago, IL
- Honolulu Marathon, Honolulu, HI
- CareFirst/BlueCross-BlueShield Baltimore Half Marathon, Baltimore, MD
- Luray Triathlon Luray, VA
Registration fee is $95 and each participant will be asked to meet a minimum fundraising goal. Training begins May 5, 2012 (training for the Honolulu Marathon begins June 9). All levels of experience are welcome.
T2 supports the life-saving work of AIDS United and the Washington AIDS Partnership (an AIDS United community partner) by helping to raise funds to support HIV/AIDS programs and services in the District of Columbia and around the country.
“The momentum for T2 only continues to build after a wonderful inaugural year,” said Victor Barnes, AIDS United Interim President and CEO. “With three full marathons, two half marathons, and now a triathlon in the 2012 program, beginning to advanced athletes can choose their challenge, and triumph in a way that they never thought possible. T2 will support them completely on their journey, and in turn they are helping to support AIDS United in advancing our mission to end HIV/AIDS in America.”
“From the first introductory session -- and through the triumph of running in the Marine Corps Marathon, I thought this program was amazing,” said T2 2011 runner Zach Patton. “Not just for the physical benefits, or the on-site coaches, or the pre-mapped routes with water stations, but for the mental and emotional support that comes from training with a team dedicated to such an amazing cause.”
