The Power of Peers: Implementing Best Practices in Your Community

Peer Navigators play an increasingly vital role in linking and retaining people living with HIV into essential medical care and other support services. Peers provide support in a myriad of ways, from assisting with navigating transportation issues, to sharing strategies for medication adherence, to providing hope and encouragement to people as they manage a chronic and often stigmatized disease. In this webinar, Erin Nortrup, MSW, Senior Program Manager, Access to Care, will introduce AIDS United’s “Best Practices: Integrating Peers into HIV Models of Care,” spotlighting organizational best practices in peer programs around the country.
  • Liz Johnson, Executive Director of Christie’s Place, will discuss Peer Navigators’ implementation of their successful Trauma-Informed Care model with women living with HIV in San Diego
  • Dafina Ward, Chief Prevention Officer, and Andrew Ballard, Peer Support Specialist, from AIDS Alabama will discuss their implementation of the Living Well program and the integral role that Peer Navigators play in supporting people living with HIV
  • Sabrina Heard, Community Health Worker from The Women's Collective, will address how her organization provides training for Peers, and will offer suggestions for how organizations with fewer resources can support their peers.
