2020 Presidential Candidate HIV Questionnaire

The Presidential candidates in 2020 have a unique opportunity to make history. For the first time in history, we are able to end the HIV epidemic in the United States. Scientific advances and groundbreaking HIV research have shown us that it is not only possible for people to live long, healthy lives with HIV, but that people who have achieved (and maintain) an undetectable viral load cannot transmit the virus to others. Period. This knowledge is powerful, yet there is much more needed to affect the change we need.

To better understand how presidential candidates will take advantage of this unique opportunity to end to the HIV epidemic, a coalition of more than 50 organizations led by AIDS United and the Act Now End AIDS Coalition, sent a survey to all of the candidates who were running for president.

The survey is intended to assess the positions of all candidates running for President concerning HIV regardless of party. The ultimate goal is to learn where candidates stand on critical issues in the epidemic, and to educate the hundreds of thousands of individuals who care deeply about ending the loss and suffering caused by HIV. The non-partisan coalition of organizations that created this survey (listed below) do not endorse any candidate or political party. View the survey questions here.

As of right now, the candidates who responded to the survey and their responses are published below, in their entirety. As the presidential campaign continues, AIDS United and the other HIV advocacy organizations that produced the survey will continue to review campaign literature, speeches or other positions of the candidates who have not responded to determine their positions. We urge all remaining candidates to complete the survey and we will publish responses from the other presidential candidates as they are sent in.
