Getting Engaged in Your Community

If we want ensure that our elected officials at the federal, state and local levels are champions for those of us living with HIV, it is not enough to vote by ourselves. It is only through the mobilization to the polls of the vast patchwork of advocates who make up the HIV community that we can hope to see politicians in office who will fight alongside us for policies that benefit all people living and affected by HIV. Check out the links below to see how you can get involved.

  • Positive Women’s Network-USA, #PWNVotes2020 webinars:

Click here to participate in webinars with the amazing advocates from PWN-USA as they talk about ways to help get out the vote and engage with candidates. Webinars will be reposted in the Election Resource Center as they are made available.

  • At a time when the Voting Rights Act has been gutted by the Supreme Court and access to the ballot for Black and Brown Americans is under attack all across the country, it is vital that the HIV community support efforts to ensure people of color in this country are able to vote. The Capacity Building Institute aims to do just that, with its stated goal being, "to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities." Check them out today.

  • If you're looking to specifically reach out to students and younger members of your own community, you can head over to Alliance for Youth's website and connect with state and local youth organizing groups fighting for a brighter, more just future.

  • For impartial, unbiased and always accurate information on all things related to the vote, check out the League of Women Voters. Their Guidance for Voter Registration Activities During COVID-19 is a very useful guide for people looking to start registering voters in their own communities during the pandemic.
