AIDS United Questions Timing; Approach to PACHA Dismissals

Washington DC -- AIDS United expressed concern today, over reports that the Trump Administration had sent letters dismissing all remaining members of the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) – six members had previously resigned already, citing a lack of action by the administration to combat the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Nation’s HIV and STD Leaders Condemn the Senate for Inclusion of Individual Mandate Repeal in the Tax Reform Bill

Washington, DC – AIDS United, NASTAD, the National Coalition of STD Directors, NMAC, and The AIDS Institute collectively condemn today’s passage of HR 1 by the Senate, especially its inclusion of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate repeal. HR1 will likely have widespread, detrimental impact on critical entitlement programs such as Medicaid and Medicare as well as on health-related spending.

AIDS United Names William McColl New Vice President for Policy and Advocacy

AIDS United, dedicated to ending the HIV epidemic in the United States, announced today that after a broad national search, it has selected William “Bill” McColl to serve as its next vice president for policy and advocacy. Bill assumes his new role effective December 1 – World AIDS Day 2017 – following the upcoming retirement of his predecessor, Ronald Johnson.


Nation’s HIV Leaders Raise Alarm Over Lack of HIV, STD Mention in HHS Strategic Plan

Five of the nation’s leading organizations focused on ending the HIV and STD epidemics in the United States have collectively expressed their grave concern with the lack of focus on HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Strategic Plan, FY2018-2022. Despite the crucial importance of the intersectional issues of HIV and STDs, including hepatitis, to our nation’s public health, the report is relatively silent on these issues. The document contains no mention of other STDs, mentions HIV only twice and hepatitis just once.



Leading HIV and STD organizations in the United States are both alarmed by the nation’s growing opioid epidemic and determined to do everything in our power to end it.
