The following is a statement from AIDS United President and CEO Jesse Milan, Jr. on Phill Wilson’s retirement from his position as CEO of Black AIDS Institute:

Washington, DC – “This Black History Month, we honor black leaders past and present who inspired our nation and helped create a more fair and just America. This year we must include Phill Wilson who announced this retirement this week. Phill is founder and CEO of the Black AIDS Institute and has dedicated his life to ensuring that those most affected by HIV are central to our response. For two decades, he has worked ceaselessly, fearlessly and selflessly on behalf of African Americans living with and vulnerable to this disease, all the while demonstrating the incredible accomplishments one could achieve while living with HIV. Under his leadership the Black AIDS Institute has helped ensure that the Black community was not only part of discussions about the epidemic, but also led them. Phill is a pillar of our community. More than that, he is a true friend. AIDS United is proud to have worked with Phill and will continue to support the Black AIDS Institute and its mission. We look forward to the day where all of us can join Phill in respite, and know that when that day finally comes, that we have defeated this disease, it will be, in no small part, thanks to his life’s work.”
