AIDS United CEO honors the memory of Ron Simmons

Ron Simmons, Ph.D., spent 24 years as president and CEO of Us Helping Us, People Into Living Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that provided HIV prevention and support services for African Americans in the Washington area. He died May 28, 2020.

Following the death of Simmons, Jesse Milan Jr., president and CEO of AIDS United, released the following statement:

"I am so deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Simmons’ passing.  Ron was a stalwart general in the fight to end the HIV epidemic, and his presence will be sorely missed.

"Ron's focus on young Black gay men was revolutionary. And there is no doubt that his HIV work prevented the spread of the virus and saved the lives of thousands in one of the hardest-hit communities of the HIV epidemic.

"I always looked up to Ron as example of what Black gay men could achieve. He was truly a living legend and an inspiration for me and all who knew him.

"On behalf of the entire AIDS United community, I offer our condolences to all of Ron's family and friends. I also join my voice with many in celebrating the life and work of a visionary leader who will be sorely missed."
