AIDS United CEO excited by new resources to strengthen efforts to end the epidemic

WASHINGTON — Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced $117 million in new awards to state and local health departments to strengthen HIV prevention and treatment efforts under the federal Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. initiative. Jesse Milan Jr., president and CEO of AIDS United, issued the following statement:

“We are excited by the CDC’s announcement of these new resources to strengthen communities in moving forward to end the epidemic. These new resources are especially needed to help communities address systemic health disparities for HIV across the country.

"These funding awards are the result of the HIV community’s continued advocacy for new funds and resources. They have transformative potential for supporting state and local health departments to revitalize and expand their HIV prevention and treatment work, which has shifted amid the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19. These new resources for the Ending the Epidemic Initiative have been needed for a long time.

"We hope these funds are used by health departments to continue moving toward greater health equity as we work to end the HIV epidemic. AIDS United will continue to work with Congress and the Biden administration to secure further resources in the next appropriations cycle that will support people living with and vulnerable to HIV living in every corner of the United States.”
