The federal budget and appropriations process directly affects the funding levels for domestic HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and research, housing programs, and workforce education and development. Ideally, Congress passes 12 individual appropriations bills before the start of each fiscal year on October 1. The 12 bills cover different funding areas, which the president signs to pass a full federal budget.
AIDS United works to ensure that the annual federal budget and appropriations bills results in domestic HIV-related funding levels that ensure the United States can invest in critical research leading to scientific advances to end the HIV epidemic and that are responsive to the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS), health care reform, and to the needs of vulnerable populations.
