HIV Disaster Relief Fund
AIDS United's HIV Disaster Relief Fund helps meet the immediate and urgent needs of people living with and at risk for HIV in regions affected by disasters like Hurricanes Florence and Michael. The intent of the funding is to ensure HIV-related agencies impacted by these storms can provide care and support services to the HIV community in their areas. The Fund builds off the success of the HIV Hurricane Relief Effort, which was established in 2017 in response to hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and María.

The main priorities for funding are to support the following activities:
  • Organizational recovery – These grants support rebuilding and reconstruction of organizations serving the HIV community in the areas affected by hurricanes Florence and Michael.
  • Client recovery – These grants fund the provision of basic needs and support services for people living with HIV and those most affected by HIV in the areas affected by hurricanes Florence and Michael.

  • Requests for funding will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis from agencies serving people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS who reside in or have been displaced from the areas affected by hurricanes Florence and Michael.
  • Agencies must have 501(c)(3) status, or have a qualified fiscal sponsor.
  • Applicants (or their fiscal sponsor) must have the capacity to receive award funds electronically or via FedEx.

Use of Funds
  • The maximum amount for awards is $5,000. Special consideration for larger funding requests may be given based on need.
  • Applicants must be able to spend the grant funds within three months or indicate how long is needed to expend grant funds.
  • Grant funds may be used for the purchase of medication, as approved on a case-by-case basis.
  • Grant funds may not be used for replacement of lost revenue.
