Edgar Mendez

Coordinator of HIV and STI Testing Services | Cascade AIDS Project | Portland, OR

Edgar Mendez serves as the Coordinator of HIV and STI Testing Services for the largest AIDS Service Organization in the State of Oregon: Cascade AIDS Project (CAP).

As Testing Coordinator, Edgar oversees day-to-day operations related to HIV/STI testing; including maintenance of clinical spaces and inventories, updating and implementing testing policies, initiating testing events in community settings to reach at risk populations, and providing direct testing services.

Before working at Cascade AIDS Project, Edgar was a long standing volunteer. He started in 2006, as a peer educator with CAP's youth program 'Teen2Teen'. Eventually Edgar would return as staff for the same program, providing comprehensive, inclusive and accurate education around HIV & STI prevention, healthy relationships, and gender identity to a variety of schools and community groups across Oregon.

A native of Albuquerque New Mexico, he’s lived in Portland Oregon most his life. In 2013-2014 Edgar served as a youth scholar with the National Minority AIDS Council. Edgar attended Willamette University where he graduated with his B.A in Politics in 2012.
