Venton C. Jones Jr. represents a new generation of national leaders committed to advancing equality and social justice for the African American and LGBT communities. Venton worked extensively in the areas of non-profit administration, public health communications and community organizing. Since the beginning of his career, he has been a tireless advocate on the front lines of addressing the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States.
Prior to joining Team NBJC, Venton served as communications and education manager for the National Black Gay Men’s Advocacy Coalition (NBGMAC) from 2010-2013. As the first full-time staff person of NBGMAC, Venton managed day-to-day operations of the coalition and overhauled the organization’s communications infrastructure. In 2008, Venton founded and served as president of the Dallas-based non-profit DFW Pride Movement in Texas.
Mr. Jones extensive background has led him to serve as an expert consultant on mobilizing LGBT communities of color, HIV/AIDS and other health disparities for a number of agencies and government entities throughout the United States, including the White House. He has been featured in a number of publications and other media outlets, including JET magazine and BET. In 2013, he was recognized as one of the “LOUD 100 LGBT People of Color,” and as a recipient of the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) Positive Leadership Award and the Harold Dean Philpot Leadership Award for Excellence in Support for HIV/AIDS and Community Service sponsored by the National AIDS Education and Services for Minorities (NAESM).
Venton received his Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from Texas A&M University and his Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. In addition, he is a Free and Accepted Mason (F.A.A.M.) and an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
