In Congress, Obamacare Replacement Plans Start To Emerge

The 115th Congress may have just started, but the Republican Congressional majority is already well underway in their search for a replacement for the Affordable Care Act. This past week, a pair of Republican replacement plans from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) were unveiled. Time will tell if they have a significant impact on the final Republican proposal to replace Obamacare.

New Administration, Old Approach: Trump advocates Medicaid Block Grants & ACA Repeal

For more than half a century, Medicaid has served as an invaluable safety net for low income individuals and family, as well as a crucial health care resource for people living with disabilities. And, for much of that time, people living with HIV/AIDS have been some of the biggest beneficiaries of the entitlement program, with more the 40% of PLWHA who are in care today utilizing. This week, what had been feared was confirmed, as the Trump administration made clear their intention to block grant Medicaid, a move that will leave millions of Americans without health care.

AIDSWatch 2014: The Power of Advocacy and Sharing Our Stories

As people living with HIV/AIDS, we intimately know the many barriers preventing us from achieving the possible, an AIDS free generation. Despite the discovery of the HIV virus in the 1980’s, our youth continue to be poorly educated on sexual health at homes and in our public schools. Stigma is real and continues to be a factor that not only prevents people from getting tested, but also from disclosing their HIV-status and being linked and retained in high quality care, treatment and supportive services.
