AIDS United’s Southern HIV Impact Fund Opens Pre-Applications for up to 60k in Grants

With support from Gilead Sciences, ViiV Healthcare, and a generous anonymous donor, the Southern HIV Fund (SHIF), administered through AIDS United, has announced pre-applications are open for the 2024-2025 grantmaking cycle. This is part of a multi-stage process to select between 20 and 25 community and social justice-based organizations and coalitions. Qualifying entities can receive a 12-month project-specific or general operating support grant of up to $60,000.   The following states can be considered: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Organizations in other states can apply, but they must do work in one of the mentioned states and have a staff member living in "the South," as defined by this funding opportunity.  Collaboratively, SHIF aims to promote efforts in the U.S. South to combat HIV, increase diverse leadership reflective of the regional epidemic, and work to allocate additional resources to the South through grants and technical support. This work enhances and coordinates HIV prevention, care and support services, and advocacy and movement-building across the region.  These grants aim to address these inequities by directing funds to and building the capacity of Southern organizations to: 

• Increase collaborative efforts across the South to end HIV and reduce health disparities. 

• Catalyze a demonstrable increase in leadership in the South that is more reflective of the regional HIV epidemic while also providing support to current leaders. 

• Increase resources to the South, both through technical assistance and grantmaking. 

  In addition to advocacy-based organizations, federally qualified health centers, historically Black colleges and university and other minority-serving institutes, Black Greek lettered and civil and social service organizations, and Southern-based networks of people living with HIV may also submit pre-applications.   Submission and Timeline  Applicants have two options to submit responses to this request for pre-applications: 

1. Written pre-applications will be submitted via AIDS United’s online Pre-Application form by 6 p.m. ET/5 PM CT on July 22, 2024. Questions do not have a word limit. However, applicants should aim for written responses to the Pre-Application Narrative questions to be no longer than one-page, single space with 12-point font.
2. Applicants can submit a pre-recorded video that is no longer than 15 minutes in length, responding to the Pre-Application Narrative Questions. Videos should be uploaded to AIDS United’s online Pre-form by 6 p.m. ET/5 PM CT on July 22, 2024. Applicants submitting a pre-recorded video will submit responses to the overview questions in the Pre-Application.

  If selected, applicants will be notified to submit a full application between August 12 and September 19.
