In case you missed our webinars in partnership with the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care last month, here’s what older adults living with HIV need to know about Medicare enrollment.
Through these two webinars, participants learned how to:
- Discuss the process for enrolling in Medicare for adults turning 65.
- Describe the basic steps to enroll in Medicare.
- Identify financial assistance programs to which Medicare beneficiaries can apply.
- Discuss the pros and cons of choosing between Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and Medicare Advantage plans (Part C).
- Describe the basic steps for enrolling in Original Medicare (Parts A and B), Medicare Advantage (Part C), and Medicare Part D, prescription drug coverage.
- Identify challenges and opportunities in enrolling in Medicare.
Medicare is the second largest source of federal funding for HIV/AIDS care in the U.S., and more and more people living with HIV are aging into Medicare eligibility every day. More than a quarter of people with HIV currently get their health coverage through Medicare. And nearly 40% of Medicare beneficiaries with HIV are ages 65 and older.
Having coverage and access to comprehensive care is vital for older adults living with HIV and there are a wealth of resources to support enrollment in care, including working with an enrollment specialist one-on-one to ensure continuity of coverage and avoid penalties.
